Andrew King

Executive Chef 

Executive Chef Andrew KingBorn in the UK, Andrew has called Halifax home for most of his life. Andrew has been in the restaurant business for over 20 years while attending university and traveling in between. After deciding to make cooking his profession, he attended the Culinary Institute of Canada in 1993. Andrew then had the good fortune of working with great chefs both in Canada and internationally with whom he mastered his craft.

Andrew has been at da Maurizio since 1997, where he has honed his knowledge of Italian cooking from local legend and founder, Maurizio Bertossi. Since taking ownership in 2007, Andrew has enjoyed adding his personal touch to menu items while honoring its traditional roots.

Kevin Hannam

Sous Chef 

Sous Chef Kevin hannamKevin has been an important part of the team at Da Maurizio for over 10 years and has been sous chef to Andrew for over 5 years. Originally from Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Kevin stayed close to home and cooked at various local resorts.

After moving to Halifax, Kevin’s skills have contributed greatly to the restaurant’s consistency. You can often find Kevin at the grill position where he prepares the meats to perfection or reducing sauces while calling the board.

Tanya King

Manager/Maitre D’ 

Manger/Maitre D' Tanya KingTanya has worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years, 10 of which has been spent as Maitre D’ at Da Maurizio.  After working in various hotels and restaurants in Halifax and Bermuda, she is proud to be working in such a beautiful restaurant with an incomparable staff.

Having received her Master of Arts Degree from Dalhousie University, she is pleasantly surprised to be a restaurateur and enjoys so much working side by side with husband and business partner Andrew. When not at work you can find Tanya and Andrew enjoying time with their daughter Francesca (who is also a big fan of Armando’s gnocchi!!).

Armando Mantolino

Pasta Chef Armando Mantolino

Hailing from Manilla, The Phillipines, Armando has travelled all over the world in the shipping industry. He lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with his wife and son Albert and has been making the handmade pastas at Da Maurizio for over 16 years. Anyone who has ever had his gnocchi will not forget it as it is widely regarded as some of the best this side of Tuscany. Armando’s loyalty to the restaurant has been unwaivering and he is often regarded as the patriarch of the kitchen.

Maike Riedel

Pastry chef Maike Riedel

After 6 years working as Chef de Patisserie at a 5 star hotel in Cologne, Germany, Maike has returned home to Halifax and is putting her international experience to work at da Maurizio. She prepares fresh bread daily as well as all the sumptuous desserts featured on the sweets menu. Specializing in custom wedding and occasion cakes, Maike prepares specialty cakes and tortes for wedding, birthdays and anniversary celebrations in the restaurant. We are also pleased to offer her custom cakes for clients to take away for their private events.
